FFA Competitions

FFA prepares its members for leadership and careers in the science, business and technology of agriculture. The FFA program offers opportunities for members to participate in livestock and non-livestock areas of competition.

FFA livestock departments include:

  • FFA Beef Cattle – Angus, Charolais, Foundation Simmental, Hereford, Limousin, Red Angus, Shorthorn, Simmental, any other purebred, any other registered composite, commercial beef heifer, market beef, market prospects and dairy steers
  • FFA Dairy Cattle – Ayrshire, Brown Swiss, Guernsey, Holstein, Jersey, Milking Shorthorn, Red & White, any other breed
  • FFA Meat Goats – breeding meat-type goats, dairy and meat market goat classes
  • FFA Poultry – breeding and market chicken, duck, geese and turkey classes
  • FFA Rabbits – breeding and market rabbit classes
  • FFA Swine – Berkshire, Chester White, Duroc, Hampshire, Landrace, Poland China, Spotted Hogs, Yorkshire, any other breed, crossbred gilts, market hogs
  • FFA Sheep – Babydoll Southdown, Columbia, Corriedale, Dorset, Hampshire, Rambouillet, Southdown, Suffolk, other purebred wool/meat breeds, commercial breeding ewe and market lamb classes

Overnight Livestock Parking

The overnight livestock parking reservation request system opens May 28, 2024, at 8 a.m. The reservation request system will close May 28, 2024, at midnight, and no more requests will be accepted after that time.

Minnesota State Fair Scholarship

The Minnesota State Fair is invested in the educational endeavors of young adults from greater Minnesota. The Minnesota State Fair Scholarship was established in 1994 and awards up to 22 scholarships of $1,000 each. Since its inception, more than $600,000 has been awarded. Two $2,000 scholarships will also be awarded to students of any age entering a skilled trade career or furthering their training.
