Mental Health Awareness at Dan Patch Park: Red Tree Drum Group

Red Tree Singers is from the Lower Sioux community in southwestern Minnesota. The people from Lower Sioux – or the Mdewakanton Dakota – are also known as Cansayapi oyate, meaning “the people from where they paint the trees red.” Members have danced, sung and drummed in ceremonies, sundances and pow wows all their lives. "This is our way of life. We sing around the drum for strength, happiness, and life for all people," members say. Without the drumbeat they would be lost. The drum keeps people happy and is the heartbeat of the people. Part of Mental Health Awareness at Dan Patch Park.
